Renewable Energy News – by ENER.G PLc
ENERGOS, part of the UK based sustainable energy technology business ENER-G plc, will open the UK’s first gasification plant to operate on waste on the Isle of Wight this summer. It will generate 2.3MW of green electricity from non-recyclable waste, enough to power more than 3,000 homes.
This is a world class, low-emission gasification technology and is part of Defra’s New Technology Demonstrator Programme.
The Isle of Wight project uses ENERGOS’ own patented gasification technology – an advanced thermal treatment process that converts the residual, non-recyclable waste into a gas by using the heat of partial combustion to liberate the hydrogen and carbon within the waste.
The plant will generate electricity from the 30,000 tonnes of residual waste from the 60,000 tonnes currently being processed at the Island Waste Services resource recovery facility.
ENERGOS was recently awarded a contract to build an 80,000 tonne plant at Sarpsborg in Norway and has planning permission for another 80,000 tonne plant in Irvine, Scotland, with construction due to commence later this year.
